15 Things to do During Quarantine

With so much time on our hands, it’s hard not to twiddle your thumbs, binge watch Netflix, or scroll through Instagram and twitter for hours on end. But does that mean this is the only way we can spend our time? Absolutely not! There are TONS of activities we can do on a daily basis to pass the time.

Since there is so much uncertainty in the world right now, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to keep occupied. Pick up a new hobby, master one of your favorite things to do, there are tons of activities you can do to keep your brain flowing and maintain a positive vibe. Think of it this way – when will you have another time in life where you can devote so much time to focusing on yourself, being present in the moment, and growing as a person? We’ve compiled a list for you of some of the activities we’ve found useful during the quarantine. Not to mention, loads of activities that have nothing to do with technology. Put that phone down and find what you’re passionate about ;)

  1. Home workouts. No need to stop moving our bodies just because we can’t go to the gym! No, you don’t have to go out and get a stationary bike or a whole rack of weights. You can use small things like loop resistance bands for a great booty workout, or a yoga mat for a variety of floor exercises. If you need help getting into an exercise routine, we love working with our favorite personal trainer, Alex Casillas, to get us moving.

  2. Read the book you’ve been wanting to read for a while and just didn’t have time for in the past. Don’t read? No problem! Try checking out audio books. They could be the game changer you’ve been looking for.

  3. Surprise your friends and family with a handwritten letter. When was the last time you did something like this?

  4. Take up a new hobby. Here at wai, we love to knit or crochet things like hats, sweaters, socks, blankets – you can get really creative with this.

  5. Light some of your favorite candles and meditate. For beginners, try starting off with a breathing exercise like the 4-7-8 breathing technique. We are currently practicing SaTaNaMa meditation to help clear our minds during the day.

  6. Listen to podcasts. There are podcasts on pretty much any subject you could possibly think of these days. Our favorites include NPR’s Hidden Brain and Invisibilia.

  7. Play a game of cards with your family/roommates. Try not to get too competitive ;)

  8. Journal. If you’ve never tried journaling, I HIGHLY recommend this activity. It’s extremely therapeutic, a great way to document your thoughts and emotions, and an effective way to pass the time.

  9. Reconnect with loved ones. Call a friend who you haven’t spoken to in a while. Life can get so busy that we don’t connect with our loved ones as much as we should. This is the perfect time to check in with those who you don’t get to speak to frequently.

  10. Get some fresh air and take a walk. Just remember to keep your distance and wear your face mask ;)

  11. Discover new artists and create a quarantine playlist. Fill it with uplifting jams you can refer back to whenever you start to feel a bit down.

  12. Explore your kitchen. You all know we LOVE to cook. We’ve had to get a little creative these last few weeks when we were low on ingredients, but it has been a fun challenge to say the least. Don’t know how to cook? Well, now is the perfect time!

  13. Clean and tidy up your home. With all this time spent indoors, it’s the perfect opportunity to get rid of the junk you haven’t had the chance to purge since you moved in. I recently went through my closet and felt ten times lighter afterwards. Krystle’s go to method is to utilize boxes on boxes to organize her belongings.

  14. Complete a puzzle and give yourself a big pat on the back once it’s done. Puzzles can be tough sometimes, so take your time to marvel at your hard work!

  15. Green your space or take extra care of your plant babies. This is the perfect time to repot overgrown plants, prune a plant in need, or plant new seeds.

The list goes on and on. You’d be surprised at how many things we can be doing right now to make us feel good. Use this time to focus on becoming the most balanced possible version of yourself that you can be.

Let us know what you think! We’d love to hear your thoughts :)
